Dress Code

Welcome to Menlo Park Academy of Dance - We want you to enjoy every minute you spend here, learning dance, achieving goals, and participating in our studio activities. It should be a time of joy and fulfillment that will last a lifetime.

Academy Decorum:
  1. Be on time for classes.
  2. No talking in classes or in the waiting area.
  3. Please take cell phone calls outside.
  4. Be neat and clean in appearance to show body alignment. No T-shirts or shorts are permitted in classes.
  5. Secure hair in a classical bun for all Ballet, Lyrical and Jazz classes. Pony tails are acceptable for Pre-Primary through Grade II.
  6. Do not wear jewelry or watches.
  7. Do not chew gum.
  8. Cover-ups are required before and after class when entering and leaving the buildings.

Dress Codes:
Ballet Classes follow the Royal Academy of Dancing requirements for examinations. (see chart below)
Pre-Ballet & Primary PINK tank or short sleeve leotard. Pink ballet shoes with elastic. White ankle socks. Pink chiffon skirt (attached or unattached). No tutus.
Grade I WHITE tank leotard with white belt. Pink ballet shoes with elastic. White ankle socks. Full circle character skirt, character shoes.
Grade II SKY BLUE tank leotard with blue belt. Pink ballet shoes with elastic. White ankle socks. Full circle character skirt, character shoes.
Grade III BURGUNDY tank leotard with burgundy belt. Pink ballet shoes with 1/2” pink satin ribbon. Pink tights. Full circle character skirt, character shoes.
Grade IV-V BLACK tank leotard with black belt (No spaghetti straps for RAD exam). Pink ballet shoes with 1/2” pink satin ribbon. Pink tights. Full circle character skirt, character shoes.
Intermediate & Advanced BLACK camisole leotard, black belt. Pink soft pointe shoes. Pink tights. Pink pointe shoes with 1” pink satin ribbon.
Pre-Dance/Tap 3-4 yrs Pastel or black leotards of any style. Pink ballet shoes with elastic. Pink, black or white tights or white ankle socks. Mary Jan Tap shoes. Chiffon shirts or soft tutus are optional. NO dress-up costumes or fancy tutus.
Beg. Jazz/Tap 5 yrs Black leotards of any style. &Black Jazz shoes optional. Mary Jane Tap shoes. Pink/black or white tights or white ankle socks.  
Lyrical Black leotards of any style. Tan tights. Must be convertible, footless or stirrup tights.  
Jazz Black leotards of any style. Tan tights. May be convertible, stirrup or footless tights. Black or tan slip-on Jazz shoes.  
Tap Any color leotard is acceptable. Mary Jane or Oxford style Tap shoes.  
Hip Hop T-shirts and shorts or track pants. NO jeans. Only white soled tennis shoes. NO street shoes worn from outside.  

Male dancers should wear apparel that stretches or gives with movement. Black jazz pants or cut-offs for jazz and tap with shirts. Black tights or shorts for ballet with white fitted T-shirt and white socks.
